SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
210 ILCS 25/7-101.5 new

    Amends the Illinois Clinical Laboratory and Blood Bank Act. Provides that the director of a clinical laboratory licensed in this State shall provide that when the laboratory tests a specimen to determine the serum creatinine level for a patient age 18 or older, as ordered or prescribed by a health care professional authorized to make such an order or prescription, the laboratory shall also calculate the patient's glomerular filtration rate. Provides that when ordering or prescribing such an order or prescription, the health care professional must provide the patient's age, gender, and race. Provides that the laboratory shall include the patient's glomerular filtration rate with its report to the health care professional. Provides that these provisions do not apply to clinical trials and research.

1     AN ACT concerning regulation.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 5. The Illinois Clinical Laboratory and Blood Bank
5 Act is amended by adding Section 7-101.5 as follows:
 
6     (210 ILCS 25/7-101.5 new)
7     Sec. 7-101.5. Serum creatinine level; glomerular
8 filtration rate. The director of a clinical laboratory licensed
9 in this State shall provide that when the laboratory tests a
10 specimen to determine a the serum creatinine level for a
11 patient age 18 or older, as ordered or prescribed by a health
12 care professional authorized to make such an order or
13 prescription, the laboratory shall also calculate the
14 patient's glomerular filtration rate. When ordering or
15 prescribing such an order or prescription, the health care
16 professional shall provide the patient's age, gender, and race.
17 The laboratory shall include the patient's glomerular
18 filtration rate with its report to the health care
19 professional. This Section shall not apply to clinical trials
20 and research.
