HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, State Representative Eileen Lyons has served the
3 citizens of her district with distinction since 1995; after ten
4 distinguished years of service in the House of Representatives,
5 she is retiring; and
 
6     WHEREAS, She was born on July 3, 1941; she attended
7 Elmhurst College, where she received a B.A. in English; she
8 lives in Western Springs and is married to Arthur; she has four
9 children, Nancy, Judy, Jeanne, and Jennifer; and
 
10     WHEREAS, During her time in the General Assembly,
11 Representative Lyons sponsored several new Acts, including the
12 Gang Crime Witness Protection Act, the Recycled Content
13 Products Study Act, the Massage Licensing Act, and the Abuse
14 Prevention Review Team Act; she was the main sponsor of
15 legislation to make gun running nonprobationable, to require
16 Commonwealth Edison to make blackout plans, to require DNA
17 samples from certain offenders, to make clergy mandated child
18 abuse reporters, to legalize teenage umpires and lifeguards, to
19 enhance vision screening requirements at schools, to ban "sales
20 tax poaching", and to encourage courts to order restitution;
21 and
 
22     WHEREAS, Representative Lyons has served on several
23 legislative committees, including the International Trade and
24 Commerce Committee, the Executive Committee, the
25 Fee-For-Service Initiatives Committee, the Telecommunications
26 Committee, and the Appropriations-Elementary and Secondary
27 Education Committee; she was also appointed to the Legislative
28 Audit Commission; and
 
29     WHEREAS, Representative Lyons is active in her community;
30 she serves on the Western Springs Police and Fire Commission
31 and is a member of the Business and Professional Women's

1 Network, the Illinois Federation of Republican Women, the
2 Southwest Republican Women's Network, and the American
3 Association of University Women; and
 
4     WHEREAS, She has been honored with the Western Springs
5 Public Safety Award, the Friend of Nursing Award from the
6 Illinois Nurses Association, and the Distinguished Alumni
7 Award from the College of DuPage; she is a member of Phi Kappa
8 Phi Honor Society; therefore, be it
 
9     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
10 NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
11 we congratulate State Representative Eileen Lyons on the
12 occasion of her retirement after ten years of distinguished
13 service in the House of Representatives; and be it further
 
14     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15 presented to Representative Lyons as an expression of our
16 esteem and with best wishes for all of her future endeavors.
