HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives are
3 pleased to recognize milestone events in the lives of citizens
4 of the State; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Norma Anderson of St. Joseph, a teacher at Oakwood
6 High School, has become one of the winningest coaches in
7 Vermilion County history; on January 29, 2005, Coach Anderson's
8 Scholastic Bowl team defeated Blue Ridge, earning the coach her
9 500th career win; and
 
10     WHEREAS, Mrs. Anderson has taught biology and Spanish at
11 Oakwood High School for 35 years and started one of the first
12 scholastic bowl teams in Vermilion County in 1980; with the
13 help of two other teachers who have since retired, she got a
14 copy of scholastic bowl rules, recruited some students, and
15 they began competing, sometimes traveling two and a half hours
16 to reach schools that also had teams; she later attended a
17 Vermilion County principals' meeting to encourage other
18 schools to start teams; the event has grown locally and across
19 the State into an activity officially recognized by the
20 Illinois High School Association; and
 
21     WHEREAS, Over the years, the Oakwood High School team has
22 become an opponent to be reckoned with; the team has had a
23 winning record every year but two, drawing motivation from a
24 coach who does not like to lose; and
 
25     WHEREAS, To date, her career total is 519 wins; the team's
26 record last year was 44 wins and 15 losses; she is married to
27 Paul Anderson and says that the best part of Scholastic Bowl is
28 working with the kids and seeing their happiness when they have
29 done well; therefore, be it
 
30     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE

1 NINETY-FOURTH GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
2 we congratulate Coach Norma Anderson on earning her 500th win
3 and becoming one of the winningest coaches in Vermilion County
4 history; and be it further
 
5     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
6 presented to Mrs. Anderson as an expression of our respect and
7 esteem and with best wishes for her continued coaching success.
