SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois
3 were deeply saddened to learn of the death of Army Sergeant
4 Jack Hennessy on October 1, 2004 in Baghdad, Iraq; and
 
5     WHEREAS, Sergeant Hennessy was assigned to the Army's 1st
6 Cavalry Division; and
 
7     WHEREAS, Sergeant Hennessy was killed during a gun battle
8 while monitoring a traffic checkpoint; and
 
9     WHEREAS, Sergeant Hennessy moved to Naperville with his
10 family in 1991 and attended Maplebrook Elementary School and
11 Lincoln Junior High; and
 
12     WHEREAS, Sergeant Hennessy played soccer and competed in
13 gymnastics and wrestling, qualifying in his junior year for the
14 Illinois High School Association boys gymnastics state
15 championships; and
 
16     WHEREAS, Sergeant Hennessy was known to be funny, outgoing,
17 and a class-clown who liked 80's music, foam trucker hats,
18 goofy t-shirts and funny movies; and
 
19     WHEREAS, Sergeant Hennessy enlisted in the Army as a senior
20 in high school and began service after graduating from
21 Naperville Central High School in Naperville in 2001; and
 
22     WHEREAS, After Sergeant Hennessy enlisted in the military,
23 his family watched as the young man evolved from an active,
24 precocious child into a mature, determined leader whose first
25 priority was to serve his country; and
 
26     WHEREAS, Sergeant Hennessy was proud to serve his country
27 and showed his commitment to restoring peace by volunteering

1 for duties in Iraq; and
 
2     WHEREAS, Sergeant Hennessy strived to be a good soldier
3 and, at the young age of 21, embodied the true spirit of a
4 soldier, being faithful and loyal always to his family,
5 friends, and country; and
 
6     WHEREAS, We recognize Sergeant Hennessy for his unwavering
7 bravery and service to his country; and
 
8     WHEREAS, The passing of Army Sergeant Jack Hennessy will be
9 deeply felt by many, especially his father, Bernie and devoted
10 mother, Cindy; his brother, Eric; his sister, Anna; and dozens
11 of family members and friends; therefore, be it
 
12     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL
13 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
14 Army Sergeant Jack Hennessy along with all who knew and loved
15 him and extend our sincerest condolences to his family,
16 friends, and community; and be it further
 
17     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18 presented to the family of Army Sergeant Jack Hennessy as a
19 token of our deepest sympathy.
