SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the Senate of the State of Illinois
3 learned with regret of the death of James E. Mecum of Cambridge
4 on Wednesday, November 26, 2003; and
 
5     WHEREAS, James E. Mecum was born March 27, 1920 in Adams
6 County to Loren E. and Grace E. Boyles Mecum; he married
7 Margaret McIntosh on April 8, 1945; and
 
8     WHEREAS, Mr. Mecum valiantly served his country during
9 World War II in the Army Air Corps, flying 32 missions in a
10 B-26 Martin Marauder; he was decorated with the Purple Heart,
11 the Distinguished Service Cross, the Silver Star, and a French
12 Croix de Guerre; and
 
13     WHEREAS, Mr. Mecum worked as an accountant and bookkeeper
14 in several businesses in Cambridge and served as treasurer
15 pro-tem for Henry County; he owned and operated Cambridge
16 Monument for 17 years and later worked for McFall Monument; and
 
17     WHEREAS, Mr. Mecum was active in his community; he was a
18 member of First Baptist Church, the American Legion, Cambridge,
19 Veterans of Foreign Wars, Kewanee, 40 and 8, Annawan, and B-26
20 Bomb Group Association; he was a member and past Master and
21 Treasurer for Cambridge Masonic Lodge; he was a 33rd degree MSA
22 member of Moline Consistory, member of Sauk Trail Consistory
23 Club, and KAABA Shrine, Davenport; he was a member and past
24 Patron of Cambridge Eastern Star and former member of White
25 Shrine of Jerusalem, Galesburg; he was a member of the American
26 Pilot Association and the International Slide Show Club; and
 
27     WHEREAS, The passing of James E. Mecum has been deeply felt
28 by many, especially his wife, Margaret; his daughters, Lea (and
29 Richard) Parker and Carol (and Duane) Curry; his stepmother,
30 Frances Mecum; his sister, Eileen (and Donald) Parker; his

1 seven grandchildren; and his six great-grandchildren;
2 therefore, be it
 
3     RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE NINETY-THIRD GENERAL
4 ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
5 James E. Mecum, and we extend our sincerest condolences to his
6 friends, family, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
7 further
 
8     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
9 presented to the family of James E. Mecum as an expression of
10 our deepest sympathy.
