    Amends the School Code. Provides that a school board may not deny a home-schooled student the opportunity to participate in extracurricular activities of the district if that student meets specified conditions. Effective immediately.

1     AN ACT concerning schools.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 5. The School Code is amended by adding Sections
5 10-20.39 and 34-18.30 as follows:
 
6     (105 ILCS 5/10-20.39 new)
7     Sec. 10-20.39. Home-schooled students; participation in
8 extracurricular activities. A school board may not deny a
9 home-schooled student the opportunity to participate in
10 extracurricular activities of the district if the student meets
11 all of the following conditions:
12         (1) The student agrees to abide by equivalent rules of
13     participation as are applicable to regularly enrolled
14     students participating in the activity.
15         (2) The student complies with the same physical
16     examination, immunization, insurance, and age requirements
17     as regularly enrolled students participating in the
18     activity. All required documentation must be made
19     available upon request of the school district.
20         (3) The student meets equivalent academic standards as
21     those established for regularly enrolled students in this
22     Code and provides evidence that academic standards are
23     being met.
24         (4) The student abides by the same transportation
25     policy as regularly enrolled students participating in the
26     activity.
27         (5) The student meets all eligibility requirements for
28     the activity, with the exception of school or class
29     attendance requirements.
30         (6) The student resides within the attendance
31     boundaries of the school for which the student
32     participates.

1     The State Board of Education may adopt any rules necessary
2 for the implementation of this Section.
