093_SB0903eng SB903 Engrossed LRB093 07266 NHT 07424 b 1 AN ACT concerning education. 2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois, 3 represented in the General Assembly: 4 Section 5. The School Code is amended by adding Sections 5 10-20.37 and 34-18.26 as follows: 6 (105 ILCS 5/10-20.37 new) 7 Sec. 10-20.37. Summer kindergarten. A school board may 8 establish, maintain, and operate, in connection with the 9 kindergarten program of the school district, a summer 10 kindergarten program that begins 2 months before the 11 beginning of the regular school year and a summer 12 kindergarten program for grade one readiness for those pupils 13 making unsatisfactory progress during the regular 14 kindergarten session that will continue for 2 months after 15 the regular school year. The summer kindergarten program may 16 be held within the school district or, pursuant to a contract 17 that must be approved by the State Board of Education, may be 18 operated by 2 or more adjacent school districts or by a 19 public or private university or college. Transportation for 20 students attending the summer kindergarten program shall be 21 the responsibility of the school district. The expense of 22 establishing, maintaining, and operating the summer 23 kindergarten program may be paid from funds contributed or 24 otherwise made available to the school district for that 25 purpose by federal or State appropriation or from district 26 maintenance funds. 27 (105 ILCS 5/34-18.26 new) 28 Sec. 34-18.26.
