HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives are
3 pleased to recognize milestone events in the State of Illinois;
4 and
 
5     WHEREAS, For Lena in Stephenson county, which was listed by
6 the post office department originally as Terra Haute, 1853 was
7 a busy year; the depot, freight house, and a large woodshed
8 were built; the original plat was mostly complete and in
9 October, the track laying crew had reached the infant village;
10 the crew had such momentum that they built all the way to
11 Warren, 12 miles up the line, by the end of the year; and
 
12     WHEREAS, On July 6, 1854, probably in honor of the daughter
13 of John M. Douglas, attorney and official of the railroad, the
14 town was given the name Lena, which it still bears; and
 
15     WHEREAS, September 10, 2004 will mark 150 years since the
16 Village of Lena's founder, S.J. Dodds laid out and sold lots as
17 workers toiled to build the railroad through the Lena area; and
 
18     WHEREAS, The Village of Lena will celebrate its 150th
19 anniversary from September 7, 2004 through September 12, 2004,
20 with most events occurring on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday;
21 therefore, be it
 
22     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
23 NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
24 congratulate the Village of Lena on the occasion of its 150th
25 anniversary; and be it further
 
26     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
27 presented to the Village of Lena as an expression of our
28 respect and esteem, and with best wishes for the future of the
29 Village of Lena.
