HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, Education is one of the most noble careers that
3 one can undertake; and
 
4     WHEREAS, It has come to our attention that Dr. Dennis
5 Hockney will be retiring as Superintendent of Antioch Community
6 High School District 117 after almost 40 years of service in
7 education; and
 
8     WHEREAS, Dr. Hockney was born on March 25, 1943, in
9 Cincinnati, Ohio; he married his wife, Linda, in 1965 and is
10 the father of two daughters, Jennifer and Rebecca; and
 
11     WHEREAS, In 1965, Dr. Hockney received a bachelor's degree
12 in education and a master's degree in 1968 from Ball State
13 University; he was conferred with a doctorate from Indiana
14 University in 1976; and
 
15     WHEREAS, Dr. Hockney began his teaching career in 1965 in
16 Elkhart, Indiana; from 1965 to 1975, he taught in Mishawaka,
17 Indiana; he served as an elementary school principal in Tinley
18 Park from 1976 to 1978 and in Fort Knox, Kentucky, from 1978 to
19 1980; from 1980 to 1984, he was personnel director at Fort Knox
20 School District, and from 1984 to 1991, he was superintendent
21 of Beachwood K-12 in Fort Mitchell, Kentucky; in 1991, he
22 served as Superintendent of Schools in Madera, Ohio, until
23 1995, when he became the Superintendent of Antioch Community
24 High School District 117; and
 
25     WHEREAS, Dr. Hockney is a member of the Lake County
26 Superintendents and served as president during 2000 and 2001
27 and as secretary for 1998 to 1999 and 1999 to 2000; he is a
28 member and past president of the North Suburban Conference of
29 Superintendents; he served as treasurer for 3 years, president
30 elect from 2001 to 2002, and president from 2002 to 2003 of the

1 Antioch Rotary Club; and
 
2     WHEREAS, Dr. Hockney is a member of several other civic
3 organizations; he is a past president of Lake Villa Township
4 Lions Club; he served on the Board of Directors for the
5 Hastings Lake YMCA from 1999 to 2002; he is a member of the
6 Lake County Juvenile Justice Council, the Antioch Chamber of
7 Commerce, and the Lindenhurst/Lake Villa Chamber of Commerce;
8 he served as chairman for the United Way Campaign at Antioch
9 Community High School for several years; therefore, be it
 
10     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
11 NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
12 congratulate Dr. Dennis Hockney on the occasion of his
13 retirement as superintendent of Antioch Community High School
14 District 117; and be it further
 
15     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16 presented to Dr. Dennis Hockney as an expression of our respect
17 and esteem and with best wishes for a relaxing retirement.
