HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2     WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the
3 State of Illinois wish to congratulate David W. Hayes on the
4 occasion of his retirement from Machinist Local 660 on February
5 29, 2004; and
 
6     WHEREAS, Mr. Hayes started working at the Olin Corporation
7 in East Alton in 1959; he has served the Machinist Union as a
8 Steward, a Committee Person, Chairperson of the Mechanical
9 Groups, Lodge Trustee, Recording Secretary, and he was elected
10 as the full time Financial Secretary-Treasurer of Bluff City
11 Lodge No. 660 in 1989 and has been re-elected four times since;
12 and
 
13     WHEREAS, During the two-month Olin strike, Mr. Hayes was
14 responsible for the payments of over $2.1 million in strike
15 benefits to the 2,583 Machinists on strike at Olin; and
 
16     WHEREAS, Mr. Hayes is a 44-year member of the Machinist
17 Union; he has represented Bluff City Lodge No. 660 at the last
18 seven International Conventions; and
 
19     WHEREAS, Mr. Hayes has been responsible for lining up the
20 Alton Labor Day Parade and getting it started on time; he has
21 served on the Executive Board of the 12th Congressional
22 District C.O.P.E., and he has served as the first Vice
23 President of the Greater Madison County Federation of Labor for
24 the last 15 years; he serves as a representative for the
25 Greater Madison County Federation of Labor on what is now the
26 19th Congressional District C.O.P.E.; and
 
27     WHEREAS, Mr. Hayes has represented the Federation on the
28 Board of Directors of The Greater Alton/Twin Rivers Growth
29 Association; he has been the Labor Representative on the United
30 Way Partnership for many years, serving on its Executive Board

1 and the Personnel Committee; he has served as the Chairman of
2 the Greater Madison County Federation Political Legislative
3 Committee for many years; and
 
4     WHEREAS, Mr. Hayes was a recipient of the 2001 Labor Leader
5 of The Year award presented by the Greater Madison County
6 Federation of Labor; therefore, be it
 
7     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
8 NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we
9 congratulate David W. Hayes on the occasion of his retirement
10 from Machinist Local 660 on February 29, 2004; and be it
11 further
 
12     RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13 presented to Mr. Hayes as an expression of our esteem and with
14 best wishes for a relaxing retirement.
