 1                          HOUSE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS,  The  members   of   the   Illinois   House   of
 3    Representatives  were  saddened to learn of the death of Elam
 4    Adelbert King Jr. of St.  Louis,  Missouri  on  September  8,
 5    2003; and

 6        WHEREAS,  Mr. King was born on May 25, 1927 in St. Louis,
 7    Missouri to the late Elam and Aura (Henderson) King; and

 8        WHEREAS, Mr. King was a 1944 graduate of  Charles  Sumner
 9    High  School;  he  served  in  the  United  States  Army from
10    1945-1946; he later attended Tucker Business College and  St.
11    Louis  University;  he was employed at the Military Personnel
12    Records Center for 34 years, Lucas Power  Industries  for  10
13    years, and Schaefer's Hobby Shop for 5 years; and

14        WHEREAS,  Mr.  King  lived  a  full  and active life that
15    consisted of hobbies such as fishing,  hunting,  photography,
16    and  building  model  vehicles; he also sang for several area
17    choirs which included the Walton Choraliers,  the  Eugene  B.
18    Holmes  Octet,  the Sons of Thunder, and the St. James A.M.E.
19    Church Choir; and

20        WHEREAS, Mr.  King  had  a  wide  ranging  and  embracing
21    intelligence,  a  direct  and purposeful manner, and unerring
22    moral compass; he was known for his clever and unconventional
23    sense of humor that, at times, he enjoyed more  than  anyone;
24    and

25        WHEREAS,  Mr. Elam King Jr.'s passing will be deeply felt
26    by many, especially  his  loving  wife  of  55  years,  Eddie
27    Louise;    his    children,   Doris   and   Elam   III;   his
28    daughter-in-law, Patricia; his grandsons, Elam IV  and  Eric;
29    his  brother,  John  Henry  (Aleane); his nephews, Luther and
30    Gary   (Alriana)   Maufas;   James   (Demetra)   King;    his
31    brothers-in-law,  Arthur,  James (LaVerne), and Robert (Jean)

 1    Williams; his cousin, Elsie  Wall;  and  a  host  of  nieces,
 2    nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends; and

 3        WHEREAS,  He  was  preceded  in death by his two sisters,
 4    Reba Maufas and Alice Fowler; therefore, be it

 5        RESOLVED,  BY  THE  HOUSE  OF  REPRESENTATIVES   OF   THE
 6    NINETY-THIRD  GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
 7    we mourn the death of Elam Adelbert King, Jr. along with  all
 8    who  knew and loved him and extend our sincere condolences to
 9    his family and friends; and be it further

10        RESOLVED, That a suitable  copy  of  this  resolution  be
11    presented  to  the  family  of  Elam Adelbert King, Jr. as an
12    expression of our deepest sympathy.
