 1                          HOUSE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS, The members of the House of  Representatives  of
 3    the  State  of Illinois wish to congratulate the Brother Rice
 4    High School Water Polo Team, the Crusaders,  on  winning  its
 5    first IHSA State championship; and

 6        WHEREAS, The school won the Illinois Swimming Association
 7    (ISA)  water  polo  championships  in 1980, 1981, 1982, 1983,
 8    1984, 1985, 1986, 1988, 1989, 1994, 1995, 1996, and 1998; the
 9    team ended the season with an overall record of 30 wins and 2
10    losses; and

11        WHEREAS, The members of the team include Dan Fadden,  Dan
12    Melaniphy,  Jake  Oprondek,  Brian  McShane, Brian Kuczynski,
13    Matt Wood, Ulysses Cortes, Oscar Martinez,  Fernando  Chavez,
14    Matt  Latham, Damian Roman, Alonzo Cruz, Dominic Barraco, Dan
15    Ilanzie, Kevin McShane, Mark DiCola, Sean Castle, John Colby,
16    Omar Vasquez, Nick Velasquez, and Andrew Omastiak; and

17        WHEREAS, Seniors Brian McShane (Player of the  Year)  and
18    Alonzo  Cruz  made  the  first  team All-State; juniors Brian
19    Kuczynski and Ulysses  Cortes  made  second  team  All-State;
20    junior,  Matt  Wood  and  senior,  Matt  Latham got honorable
21    mention All-State; and Brian McShane, Alonzo Cruz,  and  Matt
22    Wood  made  the All-Chicago Catholic League; the Tony Lawless
23    Award recipients for top player  and  coach  in  the  Chicago
24    Catholic  League  went to senior Brian McShane and head coach
25    Bill Mulcrone; and

26        WHEREAS, The team dedicated this season to long-time head
27    coach Jim "Moose" Mulcrone who passed away in December  2002;
28    his son Bill, a 1996 Brother Rice graduate, was named interim
29    head  coach  for this season and guided the team to the State
30    championship; he was named head coach on a permanent basis on
31    May 19, 2003, at an all-school assembly  honoring  the  team;
32    his  brother  Scott,  a  1984  Brother  Rice  graduate  is an

 1    assistant coach along with Chris Kolasa; Joe Augustyn  serves
 2    as moderator for the team; therefore, be it

 3        RESOLVED,   BY   THE  HOUSE  OF  REPRESENTATIVES  OF  THE
 4    NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS,  that
 5    we congratulate the Brother Rice High School Water Polo Team,
 6    the  Crusaders,  on  becoming  the 2003 IHSA State Water Polo
 7    Champions  and  wish  them  well  in  all  of  their   future
 8    endeavors; and be it further

 9        RESOLVED,  That  a  suitable  copy  of this resolution be
10    presented to each  member  of  the  team,  the  coaches,  and
11    assistant coaches as an expression of our respect and esteem.
