 1                          HOUSE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS, The members of the House of  Representatives  of
 3    the  State of Illinois were saddened to learn of the death of
 4    Daryl Thompson of Geneva on Wednesday, January 15, 2003; and

 5        WHEREAS, Mr. Thompson attended Illinois State  University
 6    and  began  his  career at Oswego High School in 1961; in his
 7    first years at OHS, Mr. Thompson taught bookkeeping, business
 8    law, general business, and  typing;  he  served  as  freshman
 9    basketball coach and was the faculty advisor for The Panther,
10    the  school  newspaper;  he  later  served  as sponsor of the
11    National Honor Society; The Reflector, the OHS yearbook;  and
12    even of the pom pon squad; and

13        WHEREAS,  Mr.  Thompson  was  appointed the high school's
14    part-time vice principal in 1968,  following  his  return  to
15    school  for  his administrative certificate; he was appointed
16    to be the full-time vice-principal  in  1970,  and  was  then
17    hired  by  the  school board in 1974 as principal of the high
18    school; and

19        WHEREAS, During his career, Mr. Thompson  earned  several
20    honors, including the ISBE 1998 Those Who Excel Award with an
21    excellent  rating in the administrative category and the Coca
22    Cola Educator of the Month Award from  the  Beacon  News;  in
23    1997, Governor Jim Edgar honored him by proclaiming October 4
24    Daryl  Thompson  Day;  he  was  selected as one of the top 50
25    people of the twentieth century that made a  positive  impact
26    on  the  Oswegoland  community  by the Ledger-Sentinel and he
27    received numerous other honors; and

28        WHEREAS,  Mr.  Thompson  was  an  active  participant  in
29    several  professional   organizations   and   held   numerous
30    leadership  positions  in  such  organizations  as  the  IHSA
31    Legislative  Committee, the Illinois Principal's Association,
32    and  the  Little  Seven   and   Suburban   Prairie   Athletic

 1    Conferences; and

 2        WHEREAS,  Mr. Thompson retired after 37 years with Oswego
 3    schools and continued to remain active in  the  district;  he
 4    was  involved  in  the  Oswego  Foundation  for Excellence in
 5    Education and had spearheaded the Oswego High  School  Alumni
 6    Directory; he was an avid golfer and outdoorsman; and

 7        WHEREAS, The passing of Mr. Thompson has been deeply felt
 8    by   all   who  knew  him,  especially  his  widow,  Mary  Jo
 9    Savol-Thompson; his son, Mark (Nancy) Thompson; his daughter,
10    Janis (Sunil) Labroo; their mother, Karel Thompson;  his  six
11    grandchildren, Kurt, Jessica, Rachel and Olivia Thompson, and
12    Illa  and Nisha Labroo; his two sisters, Wanda Schmidgall and
13    Mrs. Ray  (Joyce)  Rochester;  and  his  several  nieces  and
14    nephews; therefore, be it

15        RESOLVED,   BY   THE  HOUSE  OF  REPRESENTATIVES  OF  THE
16    NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS,  that
17    together  with his family, friends, educators, community, and
18    former students, we mourn the passing of Daryl  Thompson  and
19    offer our deepest sympathy to all who knew and loved him; and
20    be it further

21        RESOLVED,  That  a  suitable  copy  of this resolution be
22    presented to the family of Daryl Thompson as an expression of
23    our sincerest condolences.
