 1                          HOUSE RESOLUTION

 2        WHEREAS, It has come to our attention that  the  Highland
 3    Park  League  of Women Voters will be celebrating 75 years of
 4    service to the community on March 1, 2003; and

 5        WHEREAS, The purpose of The League of Women Voters is  to
 6    establish   positions   on   public   policy  through  member
 7    participation and agreement; to take concerted  actions  that
 8    secure  public  policies consistent with League positions; to
 9    enhance citizen participation in federal, state, county,  and
10    local   government   decisions;   and   to  increase  citizen
11    participation in the election process; and

12        WHEREAS, The League of Women Voters  of  Highland  Park's
13    study    and   action   have   brought   about   many   great
14    accomplishments  such  as   Council-Manager   government   in
15    Highland  Park,  consolidated  elementary  school  districts,
16    community   recycling  program,  Handgun  Control  Ordinance,
17    Historic  Preservation  Commission  and  enabling  ordinance,
18    Human Relations Commission, and a Fair Housing Ordinance; and

19        WHEREAS, The League of Women Voters believes  that  every
20    citizen  should be protected in the right to vote; that every
21    person should have  access  to  free  public  education  that
22    provides  equal  opportunity  for  all; and that no person or
23    group  should  suffer  legal,  economic,  or   administrative
24    discrimination; and

25        WHEREAS, At the celebration on Saturday, March 1, 2003 at
26    the  Northmoor  Country  Club,  former  Mayors Sam Lawton and
27    Robert Buhai and current Mayor Daniel Pierce will be honorary
28    chairmen; therefore, be it

29        RESOLVED,  BY  THE  HOUSE  OF  REPRESENTATIVES   OF   THE
30    NINETY-THIRD  GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
31    we congratulate the Highland Park League of Women  Voters  on

 1    the occasion of its 75th birthday celebration and commend the
 2    group  for  the  work  it  endeavors  to  accomplish  for the
 3    citizens of Highland Park; and be it further

 4        RESOLVED, That a suitable  copy  of  this  resolution  be
 5    presented  to  the  Highland Park League of Women Voters as a
 6    token of our esteem.
