SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
9991 ILCS 5/Art. XIII heading ILCON Art. XIII heading
9991 ILCS 5/13009 new ILCON Art. XIII, Sec. 9 new

    Proposes to amend the General Provisions Article of the Illinois Constitution to provide that a marriage can only be between one man and one woman. Proposes any relationship between persons of the same sex in a civil union, domestic partnership, or other similar same sex relationship shall not be valid or recognized in Illinois. Effective upon being declared adopted.

CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT

 
3     RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
4 NINETY-THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, THE
5 SENATE CONCURRING HEREIN, that there shall be submitted to the
6 electors of the State for adoption or rejection at the general
7 election next occurring at least 6 months after the adoption of
8 this resolution a proposition to add Section 9 to Article XIII
9 of the Illinois Constitution as follows:

GENERAL PROVISIONS

13     (ILCON Art. XIII, Sec. 9 new)
14 SECTION 9. SAME SEX MARRIAGE
15     Only marriage between one man and one woman shall be valid
16 or recognized in Illinois. The uniting of persons of the same
17 sex in a civil union, domestic partnership, or other similar
18 same sex relationship shall not be valid or recognized in
19 Illinois.

SCHEDULE
21     This Constitutional Amendment takes effect upon being
22 declared adopted in accordance with Section 7 of the Illinois
23 Constitutional Amendment Act.
