SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
625 ILCS 5/3-663 new

    Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code. Provides for issuance of Paratrooper license plates, at an additional initial charge of $15 and an additional renewal charge of $2 with eligibility requirements to be determined by the Secretary of State. Provides that the $15 additional initial charge and the $2 renewal charge shall go to the Secretary of State Special License Plate Fund.

1     AN ACT in relation to vehicles.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by adding
5 Section 3-663 as follows:
 
6     (625 ILCS 5/3-663 new)
7     Sec. 3-663. Paratrooper license plates.
8     (a) In addition to any other special license plate, the
9 Secretary, upon receipt of all applicable fees and applications
10 made in the form prescribed by the Secretary of State, may
11 issue Paratrooper license plates to residents of Illinois who
12 meet eligibility requirements prescribed by the Secretary of
13 State. The special Paratrooper plate issued under this Section
14 shall be affixed only to passenger vehicles of the first
15 division and motor vehicles of the second division weighing not
16 more than 8,000 pounds. Plates issued under this Section shall
17 expire according to the staggered multi-year procedure
18 established by Section 3-414.1 of this Code.
19     (b) The design, color, and format of the plates shall be
20 wholly within the discretion of the Secretary of State. The
21 Secretary may, in his or her discretion, allow the plates to be
22 issued as vanity or personalized plates in accordance with
23 Section 3-405.1 of this Code. The plates are not required to
24 designate "Land Of Lincoln", as prescribed in subsection (b) of
25 Section 3-412 of this Code. The Secretary shall prescribe the
26 eligibility requirements and, in his or her discretion, shall
27 approve and prescribe stickers or decals as provided under
28 Section 3-412.
29     (c) An applicant shall be charged a $15 fee for original
30 issuance in addition to the applicable registration fee. This
31 additional fee shall be deposited into the Secretary of State
32 Special License Plate Fund. For each registration renewal

1 period, a $2 fee, in addition to the appropriate registration
2 fee, shall be charged and shall be deposited into the Secretary
3 of State Special License Plate Fund.
