65 ILCS 5/3.1-40-60

    Amends the Illinois Municipal Code. Provides that an advisory referendum may be placed on the ballot by majority vote of a municipality's corporate authorities, rather than its city council members.

1     AN ACT concerning advisory referenda.
 
2     Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3 represented in the General Assembly:
 
4     Section 5. The Illinois Municipal Code is amended by
5 changing Section 3.1-40-60 as follows:
 
6     (65 ILCS 5/3.1-40-60)
7     Sec. 3.1-40-60. Advisory referenda. By a vote of the
8 majority of the corporate authorities members of the city
9 council, the corporate authorities the council may authorize an
10 advisory question of public policy to be placed on the ballot
11 at the next regularly scheduled election in the municipality.
12 The corporate authorities city council shall certify the
13 question to the proper election authority, which must submit
14 the question at an election in accordance with the Election
15 Code.
