 1                    AMENDMENT TO HOUSE BILL 3653

 2        AMENDMENT NO.     .  Amend House Bill 3653  by  replacing
 3    everything after the enacting clause with the following:

 4        "Section  5.  The School Visitation Rights Act is amended
 5    by changing Section 15 as follows:

 6        (820 ILCS 147/15)
 7        Sec. 15.  School conference and activity leave.
 8        (a)  An employer must grant an employee leave of up to  a
 9    total  of 24 8 hours during any school year, and no more than
10    4 hours of which may be taken on any  given  day,  to  attend
11    school  conferences  or  classroom  activities related to the
12    employee's child if the conference  or  classroom  activities
13    cannot  be  scheduled during nonwork hours; however, no leave
14    may be taken by an employee of an employer that is subject to
15    this Act  unless  the  employee  has  exhausted  all  accrued
16    vacation  leave,  personal leave, compensatory leave, and any
17    other leave that may be granted to the employee  except  sick
18    leave,   vacation   leave,   and  disability  leave.   Before
19    arranging attendance  at  the  conference  or  activity,  the
20    employee  shall  provide  the employer with a written request
21    for leave at least 7 days in advance of the time the employee
22    is required to utilize the visitation  right.   In  emergency

 1    situations,  no  more than 24 hours notice shall be required.
 2    The employee must consult with the employer to  schedule  the
 3    leave  so  as  not  to  disrupt  unduly the operations of the
 4    employer.
 5        (b)  Nothing in this Act requires that the leave be paid.
 6        (c)  For regularly scheduled,  nonemergency  visitations,
 7    schools  shall make time available for visitation during both
 8    regular school hours and evening hours.
