SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, In times of intense personal crisis and
3community-wide disasters, the first access point for those
4seeking emergency services is to contact 9-1-1, and the local
5and county emergency communications centers that receive these
6calls are often the first point of contact for persons seeking
7immediate relief during an emergency; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Emergencies often require police, fire, or
9emergency medical services, and the prompt response of police
10officers, firefighters, and paramedics is dependent upon the
11quality and accuracy of information obtained from citizens who
12telephone 911 emergency communications centers and the
13subsequent dissemination of that information by dedicated
14public safety telecommunicators; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Public safety telecommunicators serve as a vital
16link for our police officers and firefighters by monitoring
17their activities by radio and providing them with essential
18information to ensure both their safety and the safety of
19those who require emergency assistance; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Public safety telecommunicators demonstrate great
21care and professionalism in the execution of their various
22duties while contributing substantially to the treatment of

1patients, the suppression of fires, and the apprehension of
2criminals; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Public Safety Telecommunicators Week is
4celebrated on a national level annually during the month of
5April to honor the thousands of men and women who respond to
6emergency calls, dispatch emergency professionals and
7equipment, and render lifesaving assistance to citizens;
8therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
10ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we declare April 14
11through April 20, 2024 as Public Safety Telecommunicators Week
12in the State of Illinois; and be it further
 
13    RESOLVED, That we recognize the contributions that public
14safety telecommunicators throughout Illinois have made to
15ensure the safety and security of our communities, and we
16thank them for the work they do every day to protect our
17citizens; and be it further
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19presented to QCOMM911 with our sincere appreciation for their
20efforts.
