SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Jack "Poppy" Poppenhager of Canton,
4who passed away on November 19, 2023; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Jack Poppenhager was born to Wayne and Wanda
6(Howard) Poppenhager in Summum on February 23, 1933; he
7married Joan Derry in Palmyra, Missouri on February 4, 1951;
8he served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict,
9receiving an Official Proclamation for being an Ambassador for
10Peace in 2021; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Jack Poppenhager worked for the International
12Harvester (IH) Company in Canton, where he was the oldest
13person ever to go through the IH apprenticeship at the age of
1439, retiring in 1983; he also worked as a commercial pilot, a
15private flight instructor, and as an auxiliary police officer
16for the Canton Police Department; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Jack Poppenhager enjoyed flying and was a
18founding member and the first elected president of the
19International Cessna 120-140 Association; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Jack Poppenhager was named the Canton Police
21Department Auxiliary Officer of the Year in 2010, 2014, and

12016; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Jack Poppenhager was preceded in death by his
3parents and his brother, Roger Poppenhager; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Jack Poppenhager is survived by his wife; his
5nieces and nephews, Lyn Pedigo, Amy (Tom) Ingles, and Jim
6(Trina) Poppenhager; and several great-nieces and
7great-nephews; therefore, be it
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
9ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
10Jack "Poppy" Poppenhager and extend our sincere condolences to
11his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
12further
 
13    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14presented to the family of Jack Poppenhager as an expression
15of our deepest sympathy.
