SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Evelyn Wiley Rice, who passed away on
4August 15, 2023; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Evelyn Rice was born in Chattanooga, Tennessee to
6Clarence and Evelean Tanksley Wiley on November 27, 1940; at
7the age of seven, she was baptized at First Baptist Church in
8Livingston; she graduated from Sumter County Training School
9in Livingston, Alabama; she relocated to Chicago with her
10sister, Goldie, in 1953; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Evelyn Rice had a number of vocations from
12seamstress to caregiver, and at one time, she served as a DJ at
131390 AM; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Evelyn Rice was affectionately known as "Lil Eve
15too hard to please", "Evelaso Morrocco Soul", "ABC 123", and
16"AB"; although she was orphaned at an early age, she was raised
17by her loving family and would often laugh when speaking about
18the mischief that she got into while growing up; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Evelyn Rice was a faithful Christian and a
20devoted mother, sister, aunt, and friend; she was loved by all
21who knew her because of her kind, caring, open, and unselfish

1manner; she loved her family and friends and was always the
2life of the party; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Evelyn Rice was proceeded in death by her son,
4Gregory; her sister, Goldie; her brothers, Wilbur and
5Theodore; and her husband, Hamp Rice Jr.; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Evelyn Rice is survived by her sister, Shirley
7(John) Shinaba; her nephews, James (Carolyn) Hill and Tommie
8Hill; her nieces, Gloria Fleming, Linda Hill, and Deborah
9(Michael) Roberts; and many other nieces and nephews, cousins,
10and additional family and friends; therefore, be it
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
12ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
13Evelyn Wiley Rice and extend our sincere condolences to her
14family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
15further
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to the family of Evelyn Rice as an expression of our
18deepest sympathy.
