SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Bernard W. "Bernie" Cerar of Monmouth,
4who passed away on May 26, 2023; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Bernie Cerar was born to Paul and Jeanette Cerar
6in Nokomis; he moved with his family to Carlinville and
7graduated from Carlinville High School in 1955; he served in
8the U.S. Army, where he rose to the rank of staff sergeant and
9was stationed in Darmstadt, Germany; he married Monique Beau
10in Courbevoie, a suburb of Paris, France, on April 19, 1958;
11and
 
12    WHEREAS, Bernie Cerar and Monique owned and operated a
13number of notable businesses, including Cerar's Barnstormer
14Restaurant; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Bernie Cerar volunteered in various charitable
16organizations, served on his son's school board, and more
17recently, proudly served as a fire-police commissioner of
18Monmouth; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Bernie Cerar loved going to Innkeeper's Coffee,
20where he enjoyed having coffee and many conversations with his
21friends; he loved following the news and watching vintage

1westerns, and he was a lifelong and loyal fan of the St. Louis
2Cardinals; he was a hardworking and caring son, brother,
3husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Bernie Cerar was preceded in death by his
5daughter-in-law, Clare Conway Cerar; his grandson-in-law,
6Steven Russell; his parents; and his siblings, Barbara, Helen,
7Paul, Henry, Doris, Jeanette, June, and Patty; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Bernie Cerar is survived by wife of 65 years,
9Monique; his sons, Marc-Henri, Daniel, and Kevin; his
10daughter-in-law, Amanda; his grandchildren, Nicholas, April,
11Amanda, Jennifer, Ryan, Katie, and Alexandra; his
12great-grandchildren, Liam, Jaxen, Rylie, Connor, Clark,
13Abigail, and Anzleigh; his siblings, Claudette Krupnick and
14George (Rita) Cerar; and many nieces and nephews; therefore,
15be it
 
16    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
17ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
18Bernard W. "Bernie" Cerar and extend our sincere condolences
19to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be
20it further
 
21    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
22presented to the family of Bernie Cerar as an expression of our
