SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Dr. Marion S. Panepinto of
4Springfield, who passed away on May 18, 2023; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Dr. Panepinto was born in Waco, Texas to Dr. John
6Joseph and Josephine Cimo Panepinto on May 20, 1938; he
7graduated cum laude from the University of Notre Dame in 1960;
8he married Dorothy "Bebe" Driscoll on May 26, 1962; he
9graduated cum laude from the St. Louis University School of
10Medicine in 1963, where he was a member of the Alpha Omega
11Alpha Honor Medical Society; after completing an internship at
12St. Louis University Hospitals, he served his country with the
13U.S. Army during the Vietnam War as a battalion surgeon with
14the First Infantry Division and was awarded the Bronze Star,
15the Combat Medic Badge, and the Vietnam Service Medal; he
16received an honorable discharge from the Army and completed
17his specialty training at the University of Iowa Hospitals in
18internal medicine and cardiology; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Dr. Panepinto joined Springfield Clinic in the
20early days of development of cardiology and cardiac surgery in
21Springfield in 1970; he was a co-director of the intensive
22care unit at Memorial Medical Center; he was a member of the
23teaching faculty of Southern Illinois University School of

1Medicine since its inception and retired as a clinical
2professor of medicine; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Dr. Panepinto was past president of the Sangamon
4County Medical Society and the Sangamon County Heart
5Association; he served on the boards of Contact Ministries,
6the YMCA, and the Memorial Medical Center Foundation; he was a
7member of the Sanibel Current Events Group, the Sanibel
8Bicycle Club, the Sanibel-Captiva Conservation Foundation, and
9the Porch Think Tank, where he cherished his time spent with
10friends enjoying coffee and current events; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Dr. Panepinto's years of marriage were filled
12with countless family celebrations, travel, and the building
13of lifetime memories with the love of his life whom he met in
14Europe on a college class trip; he reveled in his role as
15father and grandfather, from fishing, golfing, boating, and
16biking to partaking in spirited family dinners; he was a
17voracious reader and had a fondness for history and World War
18II; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Dr. Panepinto was compassionate in all facets of
20his life; he was a devoted friend and relative to many,
21especially in their time of need; he always put his patients
22first, regardless of their status; and

1    WHEREAS, Dr. Panepinto is survived by his wife of 61
2years, Dorothy; his daughters, Celeste (Robert) Marsh III, Dr.
3Julie Panepinto (Dr. David Brousseau), Michele (Michael)
4Mannion, and Ellen (Mark) Meyer; his grandchildren, Robert
5Marsh IV, Ethan Marsh, Peter Marsh, Joseph Brousseau, Andrew
6Brousseau, Thomas Brousseau, Dr. Matthew Mannion, Ellen
7Mannion, Colin Mannion, Aileen Mannion, Katherine Meyer,
8Meredith Meyer, and Luke Meyer; his sister, Mary Celeste
9Panepinto Greenwell; several nieces and nephews; and his
10cousin, Dr. Philip (Diane) Cimo; therefore, be it
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
12ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
13Dr. Marion S. Panepinto and extend our sincere condolences to
14his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
15further
 
16    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17presented to the family of Dr. Panepinto as an expression of
18our deepest sympathy.
