|
2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate wish to thank |
3 | | Alderperson Harry Osterman of the Chicago City Council for his |
4 | | 12 years of service to the 48th Ward; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, Ald. Osterman, a lifelong resident of the 48th |
6 | | Ward, was born in Chicago and raised in Edgewater; and
|
7 | | WHEREAS, Ald. Osterman's commitment to fighting for his |
8 | | community was instilled at a young age by his mother, Kathy |
9 | | Osterman, a former alderperson and longtime community |
10 | | activist; and
|
11 | | WHEREAS, Ald. Osterman and his wife Peggy committed to |
12 | | raising their three children in the 48th Ward; and
|
13 | | WHEREAS, A community activist and former president of the |
14 | | Edgewater Community Council, Ald. Osterman has dedicated his |
15 | | career to many community issues, with his primary priorities |
16 | | being public safety, public health, education, and economic |
17 | | development; and
|
18 | | WHEREAS, Before being elected to the Chicago City Council, |
19 | | Ald. Osterman served as state representative for the 14th |
20 | | District for 11 years, representing Andersonville, Edgewater, |
|

1 | | and Rogers Park; and
|
2 | | WHEREAS, Ald. Osterman led the fight to close the gun show |
3 | | loophole, supported the renovation of the Broadway Armory, |
4 | | increased safety for seniors and nursing home patients, |
5 | | expanded early childhood education, improved local schools, |
6 | | and secured grants for more security cameras near CTA stops |
7 | | and Ceasefire violence intervention; and
|
8 | | WHEREAS, As a longtime supporter of the LGBTQ+ community, |
9 | | Ald. Osterman worked to pass civil union legislation; and
|
10 | | WHEREAS, During his 12-year tenure on the Chicago City |
11 | | Council, Ald. Osterman oversaw major infrastructure |
12 | | improvements, including Senn High School, the Broadway Armory, |
13 | | Buttercup Park, Foster Beach, and countless others; and
|
14 | | WHEREAS, Ald. Osterman advocated for, supported, and |
15 | | facilitated the CTA Red and Purple Modernization (RPM) Phase |
16 | | One Project to modernize the public transportation system, |
17 | | including replacing the more than a century old Red Line |
18 | | stations of Lawrence, Argyle, Berwyn, and Bryn Mawr; and
|
19 | | WHEREAS, Ald. Osterman transformed the streetscape of Asia |
20 | | on the Argyle and worked to preserve the cultural heritage, |
21 | | traditions, and small businesses on Argyle; and
|

1 | | WHEREAS, Ald. Osterman worked to combat the effects of |
2 | | COVID-19 by hosting a public vaccination event on April 22, |
3 | | 2021, which vaccinated over 2,400 people with a first dose, |
4 | | before vaccines were widely distributed; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, In his last term, Ald. Osterman served as Housing |
6 | | and Real Estate Committee Chair on the Chicago City Council, |
7 | | advocating for fair and safe housing for seniors, affordable |
8 | | housing, the development and growth of the Edgewater Theatre |
9 | | District, and Equitable Transit-Oriented Development; and
|
10 | | WHEREAS, Ald. Osterman treated his staff, constituents, |
11 | | and many faithful volunteers with nothing but respect, |
12 | | dignity, and compassion; and
|
13 | | WHEREAS, Ald. Osterman employed three outstanding staffers |
14 | | for the entirety of his 12-year tenure, Chief of Staff Dan Luna |
15 | | and Staff Assistants Gerald Goodman and Ginger Williams; and
|
16 | | WHEREAS, Ald. Osterman decided not to seek reelection |
17 | | after 12 years of service to the 48th Ward and the people of |
18 | | Chicago, during which he fully committed himself to providing |
19 | | compassionate, steadfast, and selfless public service; and
|
20 | | WHEREAS, Ald. Osterman's future plans include spending |

1 | | more time with his family and further supporting the |
2 | | community; therefore, be it
|
3 | | RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL |
4 | | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we thank Alderperson |
5 | | Harry Osterman of the Chicago City Council for his dedicated |
6 | | service to the constituents of the 48th Ward and for his |
7 | | significant contributions to the City of Chicago and State of |
8 | | Illinois; and be it further

9 | | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be |
10 | | presented to Ald. Osterman as an expression of our esteem and |
11 | | respect.
