SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Ann Lee "Annie" Robinson-Anderson,
4who passed away on on March 27, 2023; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Ann Robinson-Anderson was born to Henry and Leola
6Robinson in Natchez, Mississippi on September 12, 1934; she
7grew up in Natchez and attended Natchez Elementary School in
8Adams County; she relocated to Chicago at the age of 11; she
9joined First Corinthian Missionary Baptist Church at the age
10of 13, where she helped form the junior choir with her good
11friend and sister, Darlene; she graduated from Farren
12Elementary School and attended Chicago Vocational High School;
13she graduated from the City Colleges of Chicago; she married
14Bennie Anderson on February 3, 1951; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Ann Robinson-Anderson and her husband owned
16numerous gas stations on the South Side of Chicago, employing
17hundreds; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Ann Robinson-Anderson was a hard worker, an
19entrepreneur, and an independent woman; she was a jack of all
20trades and mastered many, having several hobbies; she was a
21milliner, creating custom women's hats and designs, in
22addition to being a beautician and a cook; she was also known

1for her home decor and renovations; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Ann Robinson-Anderson was preceded in death by
3her husband; her parents; her grandson, Kenneth Langston Van
4Doren II; her adopted daughter, Karen Babbs; and Juanita
5Turner, Henry Robinson Jr., Henrietta Robinson, and Nancy
6Triblet; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Ann Robinson-Anderson is survived by her
8daughter, Jaquie Algee; her adopted daughters, Deborah Dixon
9and Phyllis Brooks; her grandsons, Jimmy "Bimp" (Amanda)
10Holloway, and David Van Doren; her nieces, CheChe, Nicky, and
11Kellye; her nephews, Denell (Valerie) Logan and Christopher
12Brewer; her sisters, Patricia Harris, Estella Hibbler, and
13Ruth (Terry) Robinson-Renfro; her brother, Arthur Jefferies;
14her special sisters and first cousins, Mary Willis, Mamie
15Sylvester, Veronica Mathis, and Gloria Mae Logan-Brewer; her
16additional sisters, Darlene Dyson and Opal Williams; her home
17care worker, Annette Caldwell; and numerous adopted
18grandchildren, nieces, nephews, church family, and friends;
19therefore, be it
 
20    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
21ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
22Ann Lee "Annie" Robinson-Anderson and extend our sincere
23condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved
