SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Alice Joanne (Spring) Roderick of
4Springfield, who passed away on March 10, 2023; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Alice Roderick was born to Albert William and
6Hester Elaine (Summerfield) Spring in Springfield on December
721, 1932; she graduated from Lanphier High School in 1950, and
8she coordinated class reunions for many years; she married
9Donald Roderick at Third Presbyterian Church on November 10,
101951, and they later divorced; she attended Joliet Junior
11College and completed her Bachelor of Arts at Rockford College
12in 1971; she received her MAA from Sangamon State University,
13known today as the University of Illinois Springfield (UIS);
14and
 
15    WHEREAS, Alice Roderick began her teaching career at
16Staley Elementary School in 1972; she transferred to Wanless
17Elementary School in 1979, where she taught until her
18retirement in 1994; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Alice Roderick was a member of the Illinois
20Education Association (IEA), the National Education
21Association (NEA), the American Association of University
22Women (AAUW), the King's Daughters Organization, and Phi Delta

1Kappa; she volunteered at Memorial Hospital's gift shop for 20
2years, retiring in 2008; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Alice Roderick was a 50-year member of the Third
4Presbyterian Church and was a member of Westminster
5Presbyterian Church; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Alice Roderick loved traveling, playing bridge,
7and reading; most of all, she loved spending time with her
8children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Alice Roderick was preceded in death by her
10parents; her brothers, Robert Spring and Jack Spring; her
11infant siblings, James and Carol; her son, the Very Reverend
12Dr. Keith Richard Roderick; her in-laws, Robert and Doris
13(Roderick) Pitts, Kenneth and Patricia (Roderick) Mueller,
14John Stevens, and Dee Spring; her step-grandson, Donald McKee;
15her grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and nephews; and her
16many dear friends; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Alice Roderick is survived by her son, Blake
18(Betsy) Roderick; her daughter, Pam Roderick; her
19daughter-in-law, Mary Beth (Hansen) Roderick; her
20grandchildren, Seth (Elvia) Roderick, Micah (Amy) Roderick,
21Dr. Noah (Cherish) Roderick, Sarah (Jack) Fitch, Joseph
22(Rachel) Roderick, Maj. Evan (Natasha) Roderick, Aubrey Jo

1(Andrew) Tyndall, and Susannah Roderick; and her
2step-grandchildren, John McKee, Jacob (Bridget) Cramsey, Josh
3(Olivia) Cramsey, and Rachel (Isaac) Viar; her
4great-grandchildren, Quinn Roderick, Desmond Roderick,
5Mackland Roderick, Henry Roderick, Lydia Roderick, Daphne
6Roderick, Llewyn Tyndall, Remington Cramsey, Lynden Cramsey,
7and Mabel Cramsey; her sister, Sharyl Stevens; her
8sister-in-law, Nada King; and several nephews, nieces, and
9cousins; therefore, be it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
11ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
12Alice Joanne (Spring) Roderick and extend our sincere
13condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved
14her; and be it further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to the family of Alice Roderick as an expression of
17our deepest sympathy.
