2 | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened | ||||||
3 | to learn of the death of Leland "Lee" William Fuchs of | ||||||
4 | Springfield, who passed away on December 2, 2022; and
| ||||||
5 | WHEREAS, Lee Fuchs was born to Martin and Mary (Smith) | ||||||
6 | Fuchs in Harvel on October 28, 1926; he was a Navy veteran who | ||||||
7 | served in the South Pacific in World War Two aboard the U.S.S. | ||||||
8 | Walker DD 517; he attended the University of Illinois in | ||||||
9 | Urbana-Champaign and received a degree in Marketing and | ||||||
10 | Management in 1950; he married the love of his life Lucille | ||||||
11 | Mueller in Mount Olive on October 10, 1953; in 1973, he earned | ||||||
12 | a master's degree at Sangamon State University, now called the | ||||||
13 | University of Illinois Springfield; and
| ||||||
14 | WHEREAS, AT Sangamon State, Lee Fuchs was appointed an | ||||||
15 | Adjunct Assistant Professor and taught the course Management | ||||||
16 | Information Systems in the Graduate School of Public | ||||||
17 | Administration for 15 years; he started his career at the | ||||||
18 | State of Illinois in April of 1953 with the Illinois Secretary | ||||||
19 | of State office; he helped install the state's first computer | ||||||
20 | system at the Secretary of State Driver's License division in | ||||||
21 | 1955; additionally, he was part of the group that developed | ||||||
22 | the computer generated "Soundex" Driver's License number, | ||||||
23 | which is still in use today; he then worked with the Department |

1 | of Public Aid as a Data Processing Manager; he worked with the | ||||||
2 | Management Information Division, now Central Management | ||||||
3 | Systems, organizing the Centralized Computer Facility; in | ||||||
4 | 1970, he transferred to the Illinois Department of | ||||||
5 | Transportation and implemented the Remote Job Entry computer | ||||||
6 | network in the district offices; he was Bureau Chief of | ||||||
7 | Information Processing and Special Assistant to the Director | ||||||
8 | of Finance and Administration, retiring in December of 1991; | ||||||
9 | and
| ||||||
10 | WHEREAS, Lee Fuchs served as President, Membership | ||||||
11 | Chairman, and was a board member of the Retired State | ||||||
12 | Employees Association; and
| ||||||
13 | WHEREAS, Lee Fuchs loved his family, golf, travel, and his | ||||||
14 | beloved Illini; and
| ||||||
15 | WHEREAS, Lee Fuchs was preceded in death by his parents; | ||||||
16 | and
| ||||||
17 | WHEREAS, Lee Fuchs is survived by his wife; his sons, | ||||||
18 | Bruce Fuchs, Randal Fuchs, and Robin Fuchs; his daughter, Lori | ||||||
19 | (Shell) Haffner; his five grandchildren, Tyler (Jocelyn), | ||||||
20 | Taryn, Elisabeth (Riley), Michael, and Rebecca; and his two | ||||||
21 | great-grandchildren, Happy and Lucas; therefore, be it

2 | ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of

3 | Leland "Lee" William Fuchs and extend our sincere
condolences | ||||||
4 | to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved
him; and be | ||||||
5 | it further
| ||||||
6 | RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
| ||||||
7 | presented to the family of Lee Fuchs as an expression of
our | ||||||
8 | deepest sympathy.
