SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of former Illinois State Representative
4Alfred G. "Al" Ronan of Park Ridge, who passed away on January
522, 2023; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Al Ronan was born to Phyllis and James Ronan in
7Chicago on December 3, 1947; he graduated from Fenwick High
8School; he earned his bachelor's degree in Political Science
9from the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC), during which
10he was a football player and letter winner and later became a
11generous benefactor; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Shortly after graduating from UIC, Al Ronan began
13a career in politics as a downstate political organizer for
14then-candidate and future-Governor Dan Walker; he was later
15appointed director of the Division of Mental Health for the
16State of Illinois and as deputy secretary at the Illinois
17Department of Transportation; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Al Ronan was elected to the Illinois House of
19Representatives at the age of 31, representing the northwest
20side of Chicago; during his 14-year tenure, he championed
21important issues such as a statewide seat belt mandate and
22consistently pushed for increased funding for K-12 education;

1after departing the Illinois General Assembly, he established
2and ran a successful lobbying and consulting practice; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Al Ronan loved his daughters, golf, and all
4things Springfield, in that order; he was a trusted friend and
5political advisor to many; he will be remembered for his quick
6wit and extensive knowledge of political issues at both the
7local and national levels; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Al Ronan is survived by his daughters, Maren
9(Hon. Nicholas Kantas) Ronan and Jenna Ronan; his
10grandchildren, Violet and Alexander Kantas; his longtime
11partner, Cheryl Axley; and his sisters, Maryanne Locklin and
12Bobbie Siller; therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL
14ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
15former Illinois State Representative Alfred G. "Al" Ronan and
16extend our sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all
17who knew and loved him; and be it further
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19presented to the family of Al Ronan as an expression of our
20deepest sympathy.
