SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
25 ILCS 130/10-7 new

    Amends the Legislative Commission Reorganization Act of 1984. Provides that the Commission on Government Forecasting and Accountability shall create a Veteran Internship Pilot Program for the purpose of providing internships for honorably discharged veterans to participate in the General Assembly's legislative staff internship program. Provides that, subject to appropriation, beginning on July 1, 2024, the Commission shall implement the pilot program. Provides that the Commission shall operate the pilot program for a 2-year period. Provides that, at the end of that 2-year period, the Commission shall evaluate the pilot program and submit a report to the General Assembly with its findings. Provides that the Commission shall establish qualifications for participation in the pilot program, including that a participant must be honorably discharged from the United States Armed Forces and have completed at least 60 hours of college credit. Repeals the provisions on January 1, 2027. Effective immediately.

1    AN ACT concerning State government.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Legislative Commission Reorganization Act
5of 1984 is amended by adding Section 10-7 as follows:
 
6    (25 ILCS 130/10-7 new)
7    Sec. 10-7. Veteran Internship Pilot Program.
8    (a) The Commission on Government Forecasting and
9Accountability shall create a Veteran Internship Pilot Program
10for the purpose of providing internships for honorably
11discharged veterans to participate in the General Assembly's
12legislative staff internship program implemented under Section
1310-3.
14    (b) Subject to appropriation, beginning on July 1, 2024,
15the Commission shall implement the pilot program. The
16Commission shall operate the pilot program for a 2-year
17period. At the end of that 2-year period, the Commission shall
18evaluate the pilot program and submit a report to the General
19Assembly with its findings, including, but not limited to:
20        (1) the number of pilot program participants;
21        (2) the number of applicants to the pilot program; and
22        (3) the effectiveness of universities in recruiting
23    veterans to participate in the pilot program.

1    (c) The Commission shall establish qualifications for
2participation in the pilot program, including that a
3participant must be honorably discharged from the United
4States Armed Forces and have completed at least 60 hours of
5college credit.
6    (d) This Section is repealed on January 1, 2027.
 
7    Section 99. Effective date. This Act takes effect upon
8becoming law.
