SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
20 ILCS 2705/2705-625 new

    Amends the Department of Transportation Law of the Civil Administrative Code of Illinois. Requires the Department of Transportation to develop a policy which ensures the safety of pedestrians and cyclists on roadways within the State. Establishes that improvements will be made during routine maintenance and within a distance of 1,000 feet of the maintenance work on any State road within a municipality to include high visibility signage, crosswalk improvements, curb bump outs, barrier protected bike lanes, and bus shelters.

1    AN ACT concerning transportation.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Department of Transportation Law of the
5Civil Administrative Code of Illinois is amended by adding
6Section 2705-625 as follows:
 
7    (20 ILCS 2705/2705-625 new)
8    Sec. 2705-625. Safety improvements to State roads for
9pedestrians and cyclists. The Department shall develop a
10policy which ensures the safety of pedestrians and cyclists on
11roadways within this State. The policy shall provide that
12improvements will be made during routine maintenance and
13within a distance of 1,000 feet of the maintenance work to any
14State roads within a municipality to include, but not be
15limited to, high visibility signage, crosswalk improvements,
16curb bump outs, barrier protected bike lanes, and bus
17shelters.
