HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Lois Mae
4(Morrison) Steans of Bannockburn, who passed away on February
55, 2024; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Lois Steans was born in Lake Forest on November
730, 1933; she married Harrison I. Steans in 1957, and they
8shared over 60 years together; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Lois Steans and her husband adopted a class of
10rising sixth graders as part of the I Have A Dream program, and
11she spent many evenings working with the Dreamers and their
12families; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Lois Steans was a longstanding and active member
14of the Ravinia Women's Board and took great pride in creating
15the Ravinia's Noteworthy cookbook, a process that involved
16testing, rating, and editing countless recipes; she created
17many wonderful memories for her family with elaborate picnics
18in the Ravinia park; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Lois Steans was an avid gardener and was a member
20of various garden clubs and the Chicago Botanic Garden; and

1    WHEREAS, Lois Steans was a gifted pianist who enjoyed
2playing show tunes and classical music, with the work of
3Frédéric Chopin being a favorite; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Lois Steans was well-known for her gracious
5hosting abilities, treasure hunts, creative stories, picture
6books, love of nature, and world-class flower-arranging; she
7was able to identify birds and flowers of all types; she loved
8swimming and the sun and had a unique ability for finding shark
9teeth on her beloved Manasota Key beach; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Lois Steans will be remembered for her vivacious
11presence, creativity, humor, warmth, quick wit, and the joy
12she took in her grandchildren; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Lois Steans is survived by her sister, Maxine
14(Morrison) Hunter; her daughters, Jennifer (Jim Kastenholz),
15Heather (Leo Smith), and Robin (Leonard Gail); her
16grandchildren, Myra, Sam, Abby, Jessica, Leah, Sydney, and
17Nick; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives;
18therefore, be it
 
19    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
20HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
21we mourn the passing of Lois Mae (Morrison) Steans and extend
22our sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who

2    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
