HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Suzanne
4"Susy" Woods of Springfield, who passed away on December 8,
52023; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Susy Woods was born to Laverne and Maxine
7(McCastle) Kauling in Salem on June 11, 1948; she graduated
8from Ursuline Academy with the class of 1966; she received her
9bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of
10Illinois at Springfield and a doctorate from Walden
11University; she married David Dean Woods on September 4, 1976;
12and
 
13    WHEREAS, Susy Woods worked as a public policy and
14education liaison with the Illinois Assistive Technology
15Program in Springfield; she retired from the Illinois
16Department of Revenue, where she worked as a computer
17operator; she previously worked at the University of Illinois
18at Springfield as Director of Disability Services, where she
19was also an adjunct professor; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Susy Woods was a champion and passionate advocate
21for children and adults with disabilities in Illinois; she was
22a registered lobbyist who sought laws and policies that

1benefited children and adults with disabilities; she served on
2the Illinois State Task Force on Employment and Economic
3Opportunities for Persons with Disabilities and also served on
4the Illinois State Advisory Council on the Education of
5Children with Disabilities; she was on the boards of IMPACT
6Center for Independent Living in Alton and the Arc of
7Illinois; she was involved with many other groups, including
8NAMI-Illinois, United Cerebral Palsy of Illinois, and the
9Illinois Council on Developmental Disabilities' Partners in
10Policymaking; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Susy Woods was a skilled and effective special
12education advocate who assisted children with disabilities and
13their parents and guardians from all over Illinois; she
14assisted thousands of families in IEP meetings;; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Susy Woods was completely dedicated to her family
16and many friends, and she was a lifelong St. Louis Cardinals
17fan; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Susy Woods was preceded in death by her parents,
19Laverne and Maxine Kauling; her beloved grandmother, Belle
20McCastle; and her great-nephew, Elijah Kauling; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Susy Woods is survived by her husband, David
22Woods; her daughter, Rachael (Rob) Macropoulos; her son, Adam

1(Leslie) Woods; her sister, Diane (Mark) Steinhauser; her
2sister, Tia (John) Schoen; several nieces and nephews; her
3grandchildren, Isabella (Alex) Schmidt, Sofia Macropoulos,
4Cecelia Macropoulos, and Hudson Macropoulos; and her
5great-granddaughter, Athena Burnom; therefore, be it
 
6    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
7HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
8we mourn the passing of Susy Woods and extend our sincere
9condolences to her family, friends and all who knew and loved
10her; and be it further
 
11    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12presented to the family of Susy Woods as an expression of our
13deepest sympathy.
