HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Nora Ann
4(James) Laureto of Berwyn, who passed away on September 23,
52023; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Nora Laureto was born on July 19, 1954; she
7attended St. Mary of Celie grammar school, Morton West High
8School, and Morton College; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Nora Laureto retired from the University of
10Chicago Department of Orthopedic Surgery after 22 years of
11service; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Nora Laureto served as the 8th Ward Alderwoman
13and was a constant leader on the boards of the Berwyn Public
14Library, the park districts, and the Berwyn Development
15Corporation Board of Directors, serving as treasurer for three
16terms; she was a contributing member of the Roosevelt Road
17Association and past president and a founding member of the
18District 98 Education Foundation; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Nora Laureto lived a life of service to the City
20of Berwyn community as an impactful and compassionate leader
21who dedicated her life to volunteering and improving the lives

1of all who call Berwyn home; her passion to serve the community
2earned her the Charles E. Piper Award in 2015, a prestigious
3award that recognizes one outstanding person from the
4community for their contributions to Berwyn's vitality; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Nora Laureto was most proud of helping accomplish
6the relocation of the Lincoln, the Friendly Neighbor statue in
7front of Lincoln Middle School; she launched the Pennies for
8Lincoln campaign to fund the relocation to enhance the
9school's campus with public art; she worked alongside
10countless students, parents, and community members to make the
11fundraiser a success; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Nora Laureto was the beloved wife of Tony Laureto
13for 47 years; the devoted mother of Michael (Madalyn) Laureto
14and MaryBeth Georges; and the fond grandmother of Abigail,
15Charlotte, Everleigh, and Sawyer; therefore, be it
 
16    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
17HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
18we mourn the passing of Nora Ann Laureto and extend our sincere
19condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew and loved
20her; and be it further
 
21    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
22presented to the family of Nora Laureto as an expression of our
