HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, With the period of September 15 through October
315 designated as Hispanic Heritage Month, the members of the
4Illinois House of Representatives wish to congratulate Chef
5Atzimba Perez on her distinguished career as a chef and as a
6community advocate; and
 
7    WHEREAS, Atzimba Perez is an entrepreneur, a founder, a
8business owner, and a philanthropist with over 25 years of
9experience in the culinary arts industry; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Atzimba Perez studied hospitality and gastronomy
11at Colegio Nacional de Educación Profesional Técnica in
12Mexico; and
 
13    WHEREAS, In Mexico, Atzimba Perez owned and operated a
14successful catering business that she had to leave behind when
15she moved to the United States in 1996; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Once stateside, Atzimba Perez began working as a
17server in many hotels and traditional institutions, including
18the Union League Club; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Through hard work and an inquisitive nature along
20with the support of other chefs who valued her talent, Atzimba

1Perez was able to establish and develop her current business
2in the U.S., Atzimba Catering and Events; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Through Atzimba Catering and Events, Atzimba
4Perez has brought pre-Hispanic, traditional Mexican cuisine to
5Chicago, offering a wide variety of dishes that showcase her
6extensive knowledge of and passion for the culinary arts; and
 
7    WHEREAS, During her culinary career, Atzimba Perez has had
8the opportunity to cook for many notable individuals,
9including U.S. Representative Chuy García and the Mexican
10pop-rock band Maná; she has also participated in multiple
11events, such as the Chicago Sueños Music Festival and Pilsen
12Gourmet; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Atzimba Perez has collaborated with numerous
14chefs highly recognized in the culinary field; additionally,
15she has given several interviews, and her work has been
16featured on a number of shows and programs, including the
17six-episode series No Passport Required broadcast on PBS WTTW
18Chicago; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Atzimba Perez is known for her philanthropic
20spirit and has volunteered for the American Heart Association,
21Latinos Unidos por la Salud, the American Liver Foundation,
22and St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Chicago;

1therefore, be it
 
2    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
3HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
4we congratulate Chef Atzimba Perez on her accomplishments as a
5chef and as a community advocate; and be it further
 
6    RESOLVED, That we congratulates Atzimba Perez on becoming
7a legal resident of the United States; and be it further
 
8    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
9presented to Atzimba Perez as a symbol of our esteem and
10respect.
