HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Vernon
4Jerome LaVia of Aurora, who passed away on September 17, 2023;
5and
 
6    WHEREAS, Vernon LaVia was born to Johanna A. LaVia and
7John T. LaVia Jr. on July 15, 1963; he earned his degree in
8economics from Duke University in 1985; he married Linda Chapa
9LaVia in Chicago on July 25, 1992; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Vernon LaVia was an entrepreneur, a birder, an
11author, a movie producer, and a mentor; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Vernon LaVia was the founder of the Maternity
13Homes of Fox Valley and Carpenter's Place Aurora; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Vernon LaVia served as president of the Kiwanis
15Club of Aurora and Crime Stoppers of Aurora and held positions
16on the board of directors for a number or organizations,
17including the Illinois Audubon Society, the Sci-Tech Hands-on
18Museum, Our Lady of Good Counsel Church, the Aurora Area
19Convention and Visitors Bureau, and the Conservation
20Foundation; he was also a member of Kane County Audubon; and

1    WHEREAS, Vernon LaVia will be remembered for his humor,
2his unwavering faith, and his true servant spirit; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Vernon LaVia was preceded in death by his father;
4and
 
5    WHEREAS, Vernon LaVia is survived by his wife, former
6State Rep. Linda Chapa LaVia; his mother; his mentor and
7uncle, Dennis (Danielle) LaVia; his daughters, Veronica and
8Jackie LaVia; his siblings, Wendy (Tom) Archer and Jay
9(Jennifer) LaVia; and his toy poodle, Luna; therefore, be it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
11HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
12we mourn the passing of Vernon Jerome LaVia and extend our
13sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew
14and loved him; and be it further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to the family of Vernon LaVia as an expression of our
17deepest sympathy.
