2 | | WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of |
3 | | Representatives wish to congratulate CassComm on the occasion |
4 | | of its 125th year as a locally owned business; and
|
5 | | WHEREAS, CassComm, previously known as the Cass Telephone |
6 | | Company, was granted a franchise as the Virginia and Little |
7 | | Indian Telephone Company in 1898; its first telephone wires |
8 | | ran from the community of Little Indian to Virginia, Illinois; |
9 | | the company's first construction wires were strung along |
10 | | roadsides and attached to any stable device available; and

11 | | WHEREAS, CassComm, a six-generation family business, was |
12 | | founded by Edward J. and Ada Huff, the great-grandparents of |
13 | | current Chairman of the Board Gerald E. Gill and the |
14 | | great-great-grandparents of current President and CEO Gerald |
15 | | Sam Gill II; and
|
16 | | WHEREAS, Casscom's Gerald Gill Sr. launched Cass Cable TV |
17 | | in 1965, which offered 12 local channels in its coverage |
18 | | areas; the business then took a chance on 54k dial-up Internet |
19 | | access in 1996; the company and its board of directors made the |
20 | | decision to pursue the broadband technology in 2018, changing |
21 | | all of their coaxial cables to fiber optics; and
