HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives wish to congratulate Mike Flannery on the
4occasion of his retirement as a political reporter; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Mike Flannery has been an integral figure as a
6reporter covering politics throughout Illinois and Chicago
7over the past five decades; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Mike Flannery was born in Washington, D.C. on
9March 29, 1951; through his father, a World War II veteran, he
10inherited a great knack for politics and asking the questions
11that needed to be asked; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Mike Flannery attended Georgetown University and
13graduated with a degree in political science and
14communications; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Mike Flannery began his career as a reporter
16covering politics with the Chicago Sun-Times in 1973; he
17shifted to television in 1980, working with CBS 2 for 30 years;
18and
 
19    WHEREAS, Mike Flannery then moved to FOX 32, where he
20worked as the political director; he oversaw his own weekly

1program, Flannery Fired Up, in which he highlighted and
2focused on issues that were important to residents of
3Illinois, especially Chicagoans; and
 
4    WHEREAS, On his weekly program, Mike Flannery would sit
5with Chicago's political leaders for in-depth conversations;
6over the course of his program, he covered the corruption
7trial of former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich and
8interviewed ten Chicago mayors, eight Illinois governors, and
96 U.S. presidents; in his final show, he interviewed Cook
10County Sheriff Tom Dart and U.S. Congressman Chuy Garcia; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Mike Flannery is one of a select few who
12understand the regional politics of the area, and he has
13offered a passionate voice and a fiery perspective for the
14past five decades; therefore, be it
 
15    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
16HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
17we congratulate Mike Flannery on his successful career as a
18political reporter, commend him for his leadership in covering
19state and local government and for his efforts to hold elected
20officials accountable to the people of Illinois and Chicago,
21and wish him a happy retirement; and be it further
 
22    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
