HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Batavia
4Police Department Officer Joseph R. "Joe" Gudella of
5Bloomingdale, who passed away on March 27, 2023; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Officer Gudella was raised in Carol Stream and
7graduated from Glenbard North High School in 2004, where he
8was the quarterback of the football team; he earned his
9associate's degree from the Worsham College of Mortuary
10Science; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Officer Gudella was a dedicated police officer
12who served with pride; he began his career with the Cook County
13Sheriff's Office in 2015, serving as a deputy for seven years;
14he joined the Batavia Police Department in January 2022, where
15he made a lasting impact on his peers and the community; he
16also suggested many community-oriented policing and recruiting
17focused initiatives, including the Coffee with a Cop program;
18he was noted for possessing a servant's heart, valuing every
19person he met, and finding the time to listen and talk to
20everyone; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Officer Gudella was an enthusiastic Chicago
22sports fan and enjoyed outdoor activities and adventures; his

1greatest joy was being surrounded by family and friends; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Officer Gudella was a gentle giant who was known
3for his happy and kind nature and his unmatched devotion to his
4family; he will be remembered for his compassion, his
5positivity, and his infectious zeal for life; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Officer Gudella is survived by his wife, Valerie;
7his children, Audrey and Jack; his parents, Wolf and Lynn; his
8siblings, Tom (Laura) and Elizabeth (Justin); his nieces and
9nephews, Albert, Annie, Bree, and Russell; and his many aunts,
10uncles, cousins, and friends; therefore, be it
 
11    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
12HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
13we mourn the passing of Officer Joseph R. "Joe" Gudella of the
14Batavia Police Department and extend our sincere condolences
15to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be
16it further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to the family of Officer Gudella as an expression of
19our deepest sympathy.
