HOUSE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of William
4"Bill" Burns of Lake Villa, who passed away on March 21, 2023
5at the age of 84; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Bill Burns was married to his wife Betty for 64
7years; she was his first date, and they attended the junior
8prom together; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Professionally, Bill Burns had a 30-year career
10at Abbott Medical and started his own computer company as a
11challenge; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Bill Burns was active in sports throughout his
13entire life, including wrestling at the University of Notre
14Dame and managing the Boston Red Sox minor league level A team;
15he also expanded the Waukegan Youth Boxing Club and became a
16national level boxing judge; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Beginning with the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico
18City, Bill Burns and Betty traveled to over 53 countries, many
19of them more than once; he enjoyed planning the trips as much
20as actually traveling; later in life, he enjoyed golfing, and
21he golfed in all 50 states and several foreign countries; and

1    WHEREAS, After retiring from his computer company, Bill
2Burns filled his days with volunteering at Prince of Peace
3Catholic Church, the Lake Villa Township Lions Club, and the
4Lake Villa Historical Society; he also helped on many local,
5state, and national political campaigns; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Bill Burns is survived by his wife; his
7daughters, Roxanne Vatter, Karen Burns, and Lilynn Kattner;
8his grandchildren, Savannah Vatter, Jacob Vatter, Steven
9Peklay, Christopher Peklay, Kaelen Kattner, Joshua Kattner,
10Emily Kattner, and Erin Taylor; his five great-grandchildren;
11his son-in-law, Dennis Bunsen; and his sister, Barbara Carter;
12therefore, be it
 
13    RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
14HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
15we mourn the passing of William "Bill" Burns and extend our
16sincere condolences to his family, friends, and all who knew
17and loved him; and be it further
 
18    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
19presented to the family of Bill Burns as an expression of our
20deepest sympathy.
