SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:

65 ILCS 5/11-20-17 new

    Amends the Counties Code and the Illinois Municipal Code. Provides that the county board or the corporate authorities of a municipality may adopt a resolution declaring that a specified area of the county or municipality has a litter problem and that fines for littering in the specified area will be tripled. Provides that the county or municipality shall post notice in the area specified by the county or municipality warning of the increased fines. Allows the amount of the increase in the fine received under the provisions must be used toward litter cleanup in the county or municipality.

1    AN ACT concerning local government.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Counties Code is amended by adding Section
55-1189 as follows:
 
6    (55 ILCS 5/5-1189 new)
7    Sec. 5-1189. Littering; triple fines. A county board may
8adopt a resolution declaring that a specified area of the
9county has a litter problem and that fines for littering in the
10specified area will be tripled. The county shall post notice
11in the area specified by the county warning of the increased
12fines. The amount of the increase in the fine received under
13this Section must be used toward litter cleanup in the county.
 
14    Section 10. The Illinois Municipal Code is amended by
15adding Section 11-20-17 as follows:
 
16    (65 ILCS 5/11-20-17 new)
17    Sec. 11-20-17. Littering; triple fines. The corporate
