SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
105 ILCS 5/27-13.1  from Ch. 122, par. 27-13.1

    Amends the School Code. Provides that every public school shall provide instruction, study, and discussion of current problems and needs in the conservation of natural resources, including climate change. Provides that the content of climate change curriculum must be supported by the weight of research conducted in compliance with accepted scientific methods and published in peer-reviewed journals or comprises of information recognized as accurate and objective. Provides that the State Board of Education may devise or approve the climate change education curriculum.

1    AN ACT concerning education.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The School Code is amended by changing Section
527-13.1 as follows:
 
6    (105 ILCS 5/27-13.1)  (from Ch. 122, par. 27-13.1)
7    Sec. 27-13.1. In every public school there shall be
8instruction, study and discussion of current problems and
9needs in the conservation of natural resources, including, but
10not limited to, climate change, air pollution, water
11pollution, waste reduction and recycling, the effects of
12excessive use of pesticides, preservation of wilderness areas,
13forest management, protection of wildlife and humane care of
14domestic animals. The content of the climate change curriculum
15in this Section must be verified or supported by the weight of
16research conducted in compliance with accepted scientific
17methods and published in peer-reviewed journals, if
18applicable, or comprises of information recognized as accurate
19and objective. The State Board of Education may devise or
20approve the climate change education curriculum.
