SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED:
 
210 ILCS 85/11.9 new

    Amends the Hospital Licensing Act. Requires hospitals licensed under the Act to provide information and instructional materials regarding the option to voluntarily donate milk to nonprofit milk banks that are accredited by the Human Milk Banking Association of North America. Provides that the information and instructional materials shall be provided to the parents of each newborn upon discharge from the hospital after the newborn's birth. Contains other provisions.

1    AN ACT concerning health.
 
2    Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3represented in the General Assembly:
 
4    Section 5. The Hospital Licensing Act is amended by adding
5Section 11.9 as follows:
 
6    (210 ILCS 85/11.9 new)
7    Sec. 11.9. Maternal milk donation education.
8    (a) To ensure an adequate supply of pasteurized donor
9human milk for premature infants in Illinois, a hospital shall
10provide information and instructional materials regarding the
11option to voluntarily donate milk to nonprofit milk banks that
12are accredited by the Human Milk Banking Association of North
13America. The materials shall be provided free of charge and
14shall include general information regarding nonprofit milk
15banking practices and contact information for area nonprofit
16milk banks that are accredited by the Human Milk Banking
17Association of North America.
18    (b) The information and instructional materials described
19in subsection (a) shall be provided to the parents of each
20newborn upon discharge from the hospital after the newborn's
21birth.
22    (c) Nothing in this Section prohibits a hospital from
23obtaining free and suitable information on voluntary milk
