SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Rav Shmuel Yehuda Levin, who passed
4away on July 16, 2022; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Rav Levin attended the rabbinical school Telshe
6Yeshiva in Cleveland, Ohio, where he studied under Rav Gifter
7before learning in Yeshivas Brisk under Rav Yosef Dov and Rav
8Avrohom Yehoshua Soloveitchik; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Rav Levin was deeply connected to rabbinical
10tradition as the son of Rav Avrohom Chaim Levin, founder and
11rosh yeshiva of Yeshivas Telshe in Chicago; the son-in-law of
12Rav Shmuel Faivelson, rosh yeshiva of Bais Medrash L'Torah in
13Monsey, New York; the grandson of Rav Leizer Levin, rov of
14Detroit; the grandson of gedolim Rav Ephraim Mordechai
15Ginsburg, rosh yeshiva of Mir; and the great-grandson of Rav
16Chatzkel Levenstein, mashgiach of the Mirrer Yeshiva and
17Ponovezh; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Rav Levin assumed the role of rosh yeshiva after
19the passing of his father in 2018; and
 
20    WHEREAS, Rav Levin was beloved by the talmidim of Telshe
21Yeshiva Chicago, and he was a pillar of America's Orthodox

1Jewish community; and
 
2    WHEREAS, Rav Levin was a Torah sage and leader who guided
3American orthodoxy and steered the public policy of Agudath
4Israel of Illinois; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Rav Levin is survived by his mother, Rebbetzin
6Esther Levin; his siblings; his wife, Rebbetzin Yehudis Levin;
7his children; and his grandchildren; therefore, be it
 
8    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
9ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
10Rav Shmuel Yehuda Levin and extend our sincere condolences to
11his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
12further
 
13    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
14presented to the family of Rav Levin as an expression of our
15deepest sympathy.
