SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Thomas Russell "Tom" Slater of Moline,
4who passed away on October 29, 2022; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Tom Slater was born to Everett James and Dorothy
6Armina (Wells) Slater in Rock Island on April 8, 1929; he
7graduated from Rock Island High School in 1948, where he
8excelled in football, basketball, and track; he served in the
9U.S. Army at Camp Irwin in California for two years during the
10Korean War, helping train soldiers in tank operations in the
11Mojave Desert; he married Vera Jean Morley in 1953, and they
12made their home in Moline; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Tom Slater worked for John Deere Planter for 42
14years before retiring in 1987; he also worked as a golf course
15marshal for several years; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Tom Slater served on church committees at First
17United Methodist Church, now Riverside UMC, in Moline; he also
18helped his sons in their Boy Scout activities; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Tom Slater enjoyed golfing with friends and
20family; he loved feeding wildlife, except squirrels, in his
21backyard; and

1    WHEREAS, Tom Slater was preceded in death by his brother,
2Lawrence Slater; his sister, Barbara Moad; his sister-in-law,
3Marjorie Slater; and his nephew, Craig Slater; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Tom Slater is survived by his wife; his sons,
5Mark (Cindy) Slater, Chris (Connie) Slater, and Todd (Lisa)
6Slater; his grandchildren, Melissa (Nick) Anderson, Lauren
7(Matt) Dufrene, Austin Slater, Grant Slater, and Mason Slater;
8his great-grandchildren, Dexter Anderson, Max Anderson, and
9Rosemary Dufrene; his brother, Philip Beardsley; his niece,
10Laurie (Craig) Kramer; and his nephews, Justin Slater and
11Brian Moad; therefore, be it
 
12    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
13ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
14Thomas Russell "Tom" Slater and extend our sincere condolences
15to his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be
16it further
 
17    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
18presented to the family of Tom Slater as an expression of our
19deepest sympathy.
