SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Daniel L. "Dan" Schmidt of Groveland,
4who passed away on July 5, 2022; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Dan Schmidt was born to Robert and Jean (Nelson)
6Schmidt in Peoria on January 12, 1951; he received his
7Bachelor of Arts from the University of Illinois; he married
8Maureen Ritchie in Naples, Maine on August 1, 1987; and
 
9    WHEREAS, Dan Schmidt worked as a police officer for nine
10years before graduating from law school, serving as a patrol
11officer with the Peoria County Sheriff's Department for one
12and a half years and as a patrolman with the Peoria Police
13Department for seven and a half years; and
 
14    WHEREAS, Dan Schmidt practiced law as a defense attorney
15of civil lawsuits for 19 years after earning his juris
16doctorate from Washington University in St. Louis, where he
17was elected to The Order of the Coif and The Order of the
18Barristers; he was admitted to practice law in Illinois,
19Missouri, and Maine; he was elected to the 3rd District Court
20of Appeals in 2002; and
 
21    WHEREAS, Dan Schmidt was a life member of Ducks Unlimited

1and a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Morton;
2and
 
3    WHEREAS, Dan Schmidt was an avid sportsman and
4conservationist; he loved spending time in a duck blind with
5his friends and son, Matt; and
 
6    WHEREAS, Dan Schmidt is survived by his wife, Maureen
7Schmidt; his son, Matt (Emily) Schmidt; and his brothers,
8Frank (Vicki) Schmidt and Steve (Patricia) Schmidt; therefore,
9be it
 
10    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
11ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
12Daniel L. "Dan" Schmidt and extend our sincere condolences to
13his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
14further
 
15    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
16presented to the family of Dan Schmidt as an expression of our
17deepest sympathy.
