SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Michael F. Powers Jr. of Des Plaines,
4who passed away on July 8, 2022; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Michael Powers was born to Michael Powers Sr. and
6Marie D'Andrea in Chicago on October 6, 1934; he earned his
7teaching degree from National Louis University; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Michael Powers worked as a teacher at South
9School in District 62 for over 35 years; he loved his students
10and influenced many lives in a profound way; and
 
11    WHEREAS, Michael Powers was a member of St. Mary Church of
12Des Plaines where he served as a member of the parish council,
13organized fundraisers, and sang in the choir; he was also a
14member of the Des Plaines Elks Lodge and volunteered at both
15Holy Family and Lutheran General Hospitals; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Michael Powers managed a south-side Des Plaines
17Little League team for many years; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Michael Powers was a kind, patient, enthusiastic,
19and optimistic person who enjoyed traveling, sports, history,
20reading, and, most of all, interacting with people; he was a

1White Sox fan and loved playing golf; he was an outstanding
2singer and was proud of his Irish ancestry; he enjoyed singing
3with the Irish Heritage Singers of Chicago and loved the many
4friendships he established through the organization; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Michael Powers was preceded in death by his
6parents; his brother, Thomas Powers; his nephew, David Powers;
7and his sister-in-law, Patricia Obidowicz; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Michael Powers is survived by his wife of 58
9years, Carole; his brother, David Powers; his nieces and
10nephews, Nancy Etzold, Dess Ann Fedele, Mathew Powers, Stephen
11Powers, Ashley Cunningham, Christopher Powers, Shelly
12Langguth, Jeffrey Langguth, Laura Hedrick Zoltowski, and
13Michael Hedrick; therefore, be it
 
14    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
15ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
16Michael F. Powers Jr. and extend our sincere condolences to
17his family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
18further
 
19    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
20presented to the family of Michael Powers as an expression of
21our deepest sympathy.
