SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Arlyn Lober of Springfield, who passed
4away on May 12, 2022; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Arlyn Lober was born in Cissna Park to Edward and
6Rosella (Roll) Lober on May 8, 1924; he graduated from Cissna
7Park High School, where he was a star athlete and
8valedictorian; he served in the U.S. Army during World War II
9with the 11th Armored Division of Patton's 3rd Army
10Thunderbolt as a tank commander and fought in the Battle of the
11Bulge; he was awarded the Purple Heart; he then earned his
12bachelor's degree and master's degree from the University of
13Illinois and was a proud supporter of the Fighting Illini; he
14married Maureen Macy in Litchfield on June 18, 1950; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Arlyn Lober took his first teaching position in
16Litchfield, where he met his future wife; they moved to
17Springfield in 1952, and he begin teaching math and coaching
18at Lanphier High School; he taught at Lanphier High School for
1933 years and was the Lanphier basketball coach for 22 years; he
20took five teams to State and had over 400 career wins; he also
21coached tennis and cross country in his early years at
22Lanphier; he retired from coaching in 1973 and then became the
23athletic director; he retired from Lanphier in 1986; he was

1inducted into the Illinois High School Basketball Coaches Hall
2of Fame and the Springfield Sports Hall of Fame; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Arlyn Lober was a member of Peace Lutheran
4Church, the Disabled American Veterans, Kiwanis International,
5and the Ansar Shriners; he was also a lifetime member of the
6American Legion of Cissna Park and a past member of the
7Sangamon County Board; he loved boating, water-skiing,
8traveling, spending summers at the DAV Club, and attending his
9grandchildren's many sporting events and activities; he was an
10avid runner, golfer, and tennis player and a lifelong Chicago
11Cubs fan who would fly the "W" after every win; and
 
12    WHEREAS, Arlyn Lober was preceded in death by his parents;
13his infant daughter, Laurette Lober; and his brother, Dale E.
14Lober; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Arlyn Lober is survived by his wife, Maureen; his
16daughters, Becky (Denny) Hendricks, Rose (Ric) Lober-Hamilton,
17and Chris (Todd) Green; his grandchildren, Macy (Nick)
18Lober-Morrison, Thomas Hamilton, Audrey Green, and Gabriel
19Green; his great-grandchildren, Eli Cook, Teagan Bensko, and
20Jacob Morrison; and numerous nieces and nephews; therefore, be

1ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
2Arlyn Lober and extend our sincere condolences to his family,
3friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it further
 
4    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
5presented to the family of Arlyn Lober as an expression of our
6deepest sympathy.
