SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Walter Lee Singleton, who passed away
4on May 7, 2022; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Walter Singleton was born to Cary and Denotra
6Singleton in Carthage, Mississippi on October 27, 1939; he
7attended elementary and high school in Carthage; he moved to
8Chicago upon completing high school; he married Bernice
9McDonald on June 3, 1962, and they were one month from
10celebrating their 60th wedding anniversary at the time of his
11passing; together, they raised three children, Shawna, Brock,
12and Curtis; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Walter Singleton began his career as a computer
14programmer at Dean's Food; he was a clothing aficionado,
15always impeccably dressed, and his love for clothes led him on
16a career trajectory that began with the opening of Clothes and
17Clothes Boutique in 1983, which was located at 113th and
18Halsted; after nine successful years, he expanded his
19business, establishing Brock's For Men in 1992; throughout his
20career, he was a highly successful and respected businessman
21who thrived on making people look and feel good; he was a
22leader in the fashion industry, producing fashion shows in
23multiple cities that featured one-of-a-kind pieces; his stores

1were a staple in the community and cherished by the loyal
2customers he served; and
 
3    WHEREAS, Walter Singleton, alongside his wife Bernice,
4extended their love of educating children beyond teaching
5their own, starting nursery/kindergarten programs at Bunnyland
6and Learn As You Grow, which continue to thrive and develop
7young minds; and
 
8    WHEREAS, Walter Singleton was a member of the 95th Street
9Business Association; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Walter Singleton was deeply committed to his
11faith from an early age; he was baptized at Pilgrim Rest
12Baptist Church in Carthage, Mississippi; in Chicago, he
13attended church regularly; he joined Victory Apostolic Church
14in Matteson in 1996, where he became a faithful member; and
 
15    WHEREAS, Walter Singleton loved music; one of his greatest
16joys was dancing with his wife and daughter at any given
17moment, and he would even try to carry a tune; and
 
18    WHEREAS, Walter Singleton was a trailblazer and a
19visionary; he will be remembered for being a loving father and
20grandfather; and

1    WHEREAS, Walter Singleton is survived by his wife,
2Bernice; his daughter, Shawna; his sons, Brock and Curtis
3(Geneva); his sister, Dorothy Harris; his grandchildren,
4Kailyn, Brooke, Baron, Aria, Amira, Curtis Jr., Gabrielle,
5Nathan, and Katrina; his two bonus grandchildren, Danielle and
6Tracy; his countless relatives and friends; his associates in
7business and social clubs; and his Victory Apostolic Church
8family; therefore, be it
 
9    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
10ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
11Walter Lee Singleton and extend our sincere condolences to his
12family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
13further
 
14    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
15presented to the family of Walter Singleton as an expression
16of our deepest sympathy.
