SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Garry Joseph Hird of Rock Island, who
4passed away on November 26, 2021; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Garry Hird was born to George and Rosemary Hird
6in Dubuque, Iowa; he graduated from Loras Academy in Dubuque;
7he served in the U.S. Navy; he married Diana Jacobs in 1965,
8and they raised two children, Pam and Kevin, in Rock Island;
9and
 
10    WHEREAS, Garry Hird worked as a detective for the Rock
11Island Police Department and in security for John Deere
12Harvester Works; and
 
13    WHEREAS, Garry Hird took his lifelong love of sports and
14founded The Sports Depot in Rock Island in 1983; he was a daily
15fixture at the store, sitting in his recliner and keeping an
16eye on things, even in retirement; and
 
17    WHEREAS, Garry Hird was the patriarch of the extended
18family; he was known for his great cooking and could always be
19found in the stands cheering on his children and grandchildren
20at their sporting events; and

1    WHEREAS, Garry Hird is survived by his wife, Diana Hird;
2his daughter, Pam (Christoph) Risch; his son, Kevin (Leslie)
3Hird; his grandchildren, Michaela Hird, Brendan Hird, Lauren
4Hird, Austin Risch, and Ashley Risch; his sister, Penny (John)
5Foley Cady; his brother, Rikky (Toni) Hird; and his numerous
6nieces and nephews; therefore, be it
 
7    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
8ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
9Garry Joseph Hird and extend our sincere condolences to his
10family, friends, and all who knew and loved him; and be it
11further
 
12    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
13presented to the family of Garry Hird as an expression of our
14deepest sympathy.
