SENATE RESOLUTION

 
2    WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois Senate are saddened
3to learn of the death of Janice Marie Holmes of Alton, who
4passed away on December 4, 2021; and
 
5    WHEREAS, Janice Holmes was born to Lacey and Eunice
6Henderson in Alton on April 17, 1942; she graduated from Alton
7Senior High School in 1961; she married Pleas Holmes Jr. at
8Belle Street C.O.G.I.C. in Alton on September 26, 1964, and
9they had two sons, Clevon Holmes and Rodney Holmes Sr.; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Janice Holmes worked at the Glass Works for 20
11years; after it closed, she switched careers and worked at
12Miller's Mutual for several years while simultaneously working
13at JCPenney's, where she was dearly loved by coworkers and
14customers alike; she retired from JCPenney's after 25 years of
15service in 2010; and
 
16    WHEREAS, Janice Holmes committed to her faith from a young
17age; she attended St. John Baptist Church as a child; she later
18joined Belle Street C.O.G.I.C. at the age of 16; and
 
19    WHEREAS, Janice Holmes enjoyed reading mystery novels,
20traveling, and shopping; she was very active in her bowling
21league for several years; she was also committed to attending

1weekly Pokeno games at Senior Services Plus until her health
2declined; she loved spending time with her family, coworkers,
3and friends; and
 
4    WHEREAS, Janice Holmes was an expert wife, mother, and
5homemaker; she was well known for baking cakes, cookies, and
6homemade candy during the holiday season; she will be missed;
7and
 
8    WHEREAS, Janice Holmes was preceded in death by her
9parents and her sister, Bernadine Few; and
 
10    WHEREAS, Janice Holmes is survived by her husband of 57
11years, Pleas Holmes Jr.; her sons, Clevon P. Holmes and Rodney
12E. Holmes; her grandchildren, Clenesia Pettis-Holmes, Clevon
13J. Holmes, and Rodney Holmes Jr.; and a host of
14sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nieces, nephews, and cousins;
15therefore, be it
 
16    RESOLVED, BY THE SENATE OF THE ONE HUNDRED SECOND GENERAL
17ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that we mourn the passing of
18Janice Marie Holmes and extend our sincere condolences to her
19family, friends, and all who knew and loved her; and be it
20further
 
21    RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
